Iconic Notes 2.2 is out

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

The new version brings some compatibility fixes for iPhone OS 3.0, as well as the much awaited-for new feature of custom folder icons, and a new pack of 16 beautiful ready-to-use folder icons. Hope you like it! Let us know your feedback, which will help us to improve this great app even more.

iPhone OS 3.0 Note: There are still some minor OS 3.0 compatibility issues that are not fixed in the current version and we did not notice by the time version 2.2 was submitted. We will submit another update in a few days to deal with these issues. Please report any problems to us so that we will work on fixing them as well. One problem we already know about and have fixed is that the app will crash if you tap the text editing view when viewing a note that has write-protection enabled.

Iconic Notes 2.2 coming soon

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Just a heads up that an update to the app will be coming in a few days, bringing the much-awaited ability to create folders with custom icons (a really cool collection of 15 new folder icons will be included!), along with some compatibility fixes for iPhone OS 3.0. If you upgrade your iPhone or iPod Touch to iPhone OS 3.0 before this update, you may notice some small visual quirks, but no major problems that impair the functionality of the app. Cut, copy and paste already work fine, and the app is even more fun to use with these cool new features from Apple. In any case, please be patient and the small issues will be resolved with the update.

5 star review of Iconic Notes by VVMac magazine

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

The French-language magazine Vous et Votre Mac has published a review of Iconic Notes, giving it 5 out of 5 stars, in its latest installment number 44 available this week in news stands in France, Belgium and Switzerland. Bernard Le Du, editor-in-chief and the writer of the review, sent us this nice logo to display:

He also sent us the PDF file of the review itself. For those of you who don’t speak French, here are a couple of snippets (any mistakes in translation are our fault, but it should be pretty accurate…). The review starts with the caption: “Iconic Notes, which adopts its own twist on the metaphor of the iPhone OS welcome screen, offers numerous functions, is loaded with good ideas, and its developer appears very responsive.” Then, after a detailed look at the app itself, the review concludes with the note: “… Iconic Notes proves itself to be a great product, from which even Apple would do well to draw inspiration for its iPhone OS 3.0″.

Version 2.1: Lists! Please comment

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Version 2.1 is out with the new and long-awaited ability to easily create lists. With the list editor, you can write check-lists, numbered lists and bullet lists. Everything is automatic so there is a minimal amount of typing involved. Check it out! (There are screenshots in the Screenshots Guided Tour page). And let us and others hear your feedback.

There are also several other more minor improvements including an improved graphic design and interface layout of the note editing screen, and a new and friendlier system of very detailed help files.

New icon and fixes to web sharing – please comment

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

First of all, we were hard at work trying to make a new icon that does justice to the app. Here’s what we came up with (use web sharing to add it to your Icon Library in the app to try it out on your iPhone’s screen):

The new icon

The new icon

Please feel free to comment on it, but keep in mind that different people like different colors so we cannot possibly please everyone. We hope you will like it.

Secondly, we also fixed some of the bugs in the web sharing feature that some users using non-English European alphabets complained about. Currently the app crashes when you try to save a note you were editing from the web browser if it contained certain special or accented characters. This has to do with incorrect decoding of the string passed to the app by the web browser, and is now fixed in Version 2.0.1.

Version 2.0.1, which includes the new icon and the fixes to web sharing, has been submitted to the App Store and will be available in a few days once Apple approves it.

[Update Feb. 13: Version 2.0.1 is now online on App Store - hooray to Apple for the fast approval!]

Iconic Notes 2.0 is out: New icon, web sharing and more

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Please post your feedback on the new icon and the new features (web sharing, icon badges etc.), and of course any other feedback you have on the app to help us continue to improve it and to help other users learn about what a cool and useful app it is. Cheers, Hoofien

Icon Memos

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Icon Memos is a free application that offers a small part of the functionality offered in Iconic Notes. We created it to allow people who are not interested in purchasing Iconic Notes to experience the Iconic Hierarchical Filesystem as a way of managing a system of short memos of a few lines of text each, and to let people who are considering buying Iconic Notes try out the idea and decide if Iconic Notes is right for them.

For more details on Icon Memos see the app page on App Store.

Iconic Notes 1.3 is out – Please comment

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Version 1.3 has been out for a few of days, and to judge by the increase in sales and email feedback we are getting, it is a very nice improvement to the app and users are very pleased. Your feedback is helpful as always and helps us improve, so please write it here. We also wanted to tell you we are still working to add more improvements (but please be patient, it takes time to write great code and we are also working on other projects). Some things on our todo list: Replace the app icon (any good graphics designers out there? We will pay for a nice icon, send us your ideas and sketches if you have any); Add more note icons; A lists mode for note editing for easy writing of bullet lists, numbered lists and check lists; Ability to send a note as SMS. In the more distant future, maybe: A search feature and better sync capabilities. And who knows, maybe we will even try to climb that Mount Everest of notes apps: Copy and Paste :-)

Do you like the Iconic Notes icon?

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

We noticed that some of the user reviews on the App Store ask to change the Iconic Notes icon. We think it’s a pretty good icon, and are not sure whether the criticism is just because there are so many users and some of them will end up not liking the icon no matter or what we do, or whether the icon does indeed need changing. What do you think? Please comment on whether you would like to see it changed a little bit (for example maybe just the background color needs to be changed?), replaced to something different altogether, or left as it is. We care about making the app as attractive as possible and will do our best to improve the icon (of course, we are also quite busy making improvements to the app itself…).
