Version 1.0.1 is online and the bug that caused the app to freeze while dragging icons seems to have been fixed – let us know if you encounter more problems.
Iconic Notes has just been approved for sale by Apple a few hours ago and is available to download from the App Store. As we note in the app description page on the App Store, FOR THE FIRST 10 DAYS FOLLOWING ITS LAUNCH ICONIC NOTES WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR FREE! Yes, you heard right – we are giving it away for free as a launch promotion. This is because we believe it deserves to become the standard application for notes on the iPhone/iPod Touch, and want it to reach as many users as possible. Later we plan to charge a modest price for it. Please help us by downloading it, trying it out and sharing your experiences with us and with other users. You can leave a user review on the App Store (it will only be visible to people in the same App Store country as you) or leave a comment here where everyone can see it – or both! We will of course be reading the comments and using the feedback to improve the app even more.
Q. How do I rename folders and notes?
A. For folders, there are two ways of doing this. If you’re navigating inside the folder, just tap the folder title on the top of the screen to change it. If you’re navigating the folder’s parent directory and looking at the folder as an icon, go into editing mode and tap the folder title (e.g. “Folder”) just under the icon. This works also for renaming notes, and icons and templates in the icon library. For notes, you can also rename them by tapping on the note title at the top of the screen in the note editing screen.
Q. How do I move a note or folder between folders?
A. Go into editing mode and drag the note or folder. To put it in another folder that resides in the same screen (i.e., to push it one level down in the filesystem hierarchy), drag it on top of the receiving folder, which will expand slightly to indicate that it is ready to receive the file, then drop it. To move the note or folder into the parent folder (i.e., one level up in the hierarchy), drag-and-drop it onto the parent folder icon located on the top-left corner of the screen (if you are in the root directory, this icon will be hidden).
Q. How do I delete a note or folder?
A. Go into editing mode and press the circular black button with an “x” in it that appears on the top-left corner of the icon you want to delete. This is the same interface as for deleting an app from the iPhone home screen, so might also come in handy one day if you get tired of the app…
Q. How do I email a note to myself?
A. There are two ways of doing this: in the Home Screen you can do it by going into editing mode, then holding down the note icon for 1 second to bring up the contextual menu with various actions for that note. One of that actions is “Email note”. The other way is from the Note Screen: bring up the note settings panel by tapping the settings (gear-shaped) button on the top-right; then press the “Email note” button (in portrait mode you have to press the “…” ellipsis button first to get to it).
This is the Home Screen of Iconic Notes. In the Home Screen you see your notes and folders displayed as icons, just like in the home screen of the iPhone. You can open a note or go into a folder by tapping the icons.
When you enter editing mode, you can reorganize your notes by dragging the icons around, rename icons, delete notes or folders or make copies of them. You can drop notes into folders or drag them back out into the parent folder.

When you navigate through the file system, you see your current directory displayed at the top of the screen.

This is the Icon Library, where you store your icons and templates. Icons are like factories that quickly produce notes with the icon you want. Tapping an icon takes you back to the home screen and creates a new note with the icon you selected. You can use one of the provided icons or create new icons from images in your photo library. Templates are like icons, but they also have text, and enable you to populate new notes with frequently used text like forms or numbered lists. You create templates by writing a note with the text you want and then adding the note as as a template to the Icon Library. Templates appear with orange titles.

But what about the notes themselves? After all, that’s what the app is for isn’t it? The note editing is also superbly designed in true Hoofien spirit. In the Note Screen you can view or edit your note. You can work in either portrait or landscape mode, choose any font size in any of 10 fonts, and create a palette of up to 50 custom colors for text and background. You can also set the paper background – plain, rule lines or squares. In Version 2.1 we added a new feature: LISTS. You can automatically and easily create check-lists, numbered lists or bullet lists. Great for managing daily tasks, shopping and other productivity-type organization of your life.

Web sharing, added in Version 2.0, allows you to easily upload and download notes to the app over wi-fi from any web browser running on your desktop or laptop computer on the local network. You can also upload image files to add to your icon library, or upload or download entire folders of notes as ZIP archive files. And, amazingly, you can even edit the text of a note through your web browser without going through the hassle of downloading and saving the text, then uploading it again! (We think no other app has this awesome and very useful capability). Here are a couple of screenshots:
